Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15, 1452, in the Italian village of Vinci, Florence. For the first five years of his life he lived in Anchiano, a nearby village of Vinci. He then went to live with his father, his fathers new wife and his grandparent in Vinci. In 1466, Leonardo da Vinci was apprenticed to the successful artist Verrocchio. He was apprenticed until 1472. It is unknown exactly where he lived during these six years. He may have continued to live with his father or he may have lived at Verrocchio’s workshop.
