Leopards are the smallest of the four ‘big cats’, after tigers, lions and jaguars. But where do leopards live? This post will answer that question, and also tell you a few interesting facts about leopards.
Where do Leopards Live?
Leopards are mainly found in sub-Saharan Africa. There are also small populations in Pakistan, India, Indochina, Malaysia and China. They used to be found across Asia and Africa, but they have since become extinct in many countries. They are thought to be extinct in Northern Africa. In the wild, leopards live in grasslands, woodlands and in forests beside rivers.
Facts About Leopards

• Leopards generally avoid humans, but they have been known to eat them on occasion! This usually occurs when a leopard is sick and can’t find regular prey.
• A pumapard is a hybrid animal that results from the union of a puma and a leopard.
• Baby leopards (called cubs) do not open their eyes until they are 10 days old.
• Leopards are listed as a ‘near threatened’ species because the number of leopards has decreased over the last 20 years.
• Male leopards are about 30% larger the female leopards.
• Leopards have been known to live for about 21 years in captivity.
