1. Start by doing as much research as you can. Search the internet for particular models of laptops you are thinking about buying. Find out what the prices are at some online stores and at your local electronic and computer stores.
2. Consider your specific needs. Do you just need a basic computer for word processing and checking emails or do you want a laptop that can play the latest games? You also need to think about the maximum you can afford to pay. If you carry your laptop around regularly then you may also need to consider whether you need a lightweight laptop (under 4 pounds).
3. Visit the websites of some laptop manufactures, such as Dell. They often have great deals and they will give you an indication of what you will have to pay for the type of laptop you want.
4. Found a couple of laptop models you are interested in? Then look for some reviews of it! Just go to Google and search (for example) ‘Dell Laptop Model X Review’. Look for genuine opinions! You could also go to Amazon and search for reviews there.
5. A good idea is to go to your local computer store and haggle with the salesperson and see what price they are willing to come down to.
6. Look on eBay. There are heaps of new and used laptops available. You can get some very good deals.
7. Most importantly, don’t buy until you’ve considered whether the laptop is right for you! Look at all the specifications. If you don’t understand them all, ask a friend or family member who knows more about computers.
8. Lastly, you need to consider the length of warranty you want.
